What is ELCAS?

ELCAS is the administration service used by the Ministry of Defence to help fund service leavers further training to kickstart their new career. If you have a
full entitlement, the MOD will fund 80% (up to £2,000) of your new qualification, leaving only 20% to be paid for by the service leaver.

I will soon be leaving the 3rd regiment RHA (royal horse artillery) in the north east & I want to upgrade my class 2 licence to a class 1 and add driver CPC – using my ELCAS credits SP Training had the right courses to allow me to do so.

My family have a history in the transport industry, several members were drivers themselves and I’d like to follow the same path. I hope to further use my credits to add ADR dangerous goods to broaden my career opportunities once I leave the army.

SP Training were excellent, my trainer Dave has been great but all the other trainers and staff from the minute I arrived have made me feel comfortable and relaxed, this has really helped me with my training as I felt at ease. I was pleased to find the range of ELCAS approved courses on offer with SP Training as this isn’t the case nationally, I know of many more service leavers who have struggled to use their ELCAS credits to train to be a driver.

I left the army in 2015 after serving for 11 years in the 17 port & maritime regiment in Marchwood, near Southampton. I have been an LGV driver since but I found that SP Training recently added an ADR dangerous goods course that I could put my ELCAS credits towards, the only options nationally were Portsmouth and Carlisle, living in Bradford meant SP Training were the obvious choice.

The ADR qualification will create a career opportunity for me, if I’m successful next week I start my training with DHL to fulfil an international contract with formula one, transporting equipment worldwide and setting up for grand prix events.
