SP Training Welcomes New Renault T430 4X2 to the Fleet, Named by Apprentices
As part of SP Training’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions, we’re proud to announce the addition of a brand new Renault T430 4X2 to our fleet. This state-of-the-art vehicle has been introduced to coincide with the launch of our VTCT Skills For Logistics Approved Low Carbon Instructor Course, an initiative designed to train instructors on delivering fuel-efficient driver training to reduce emissions and improve fuel economy.
The Renault T430 4X2 boasts a DTI 11 Euro 6 engine, contributing to a 3% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to earlier models. It also offers a fuel efficiency improvement of up to 10.9% when paired with the right driver training. This makes it an ideal choice for supporting our VTCT Skills For Logistics Approved Low Carbon Instructor Course, reinforcing our commitment to greener transport solutions.
Apprentices Lead the Way in Naming the New Vehicle
To celebrate the arrival of this eco-friendly vehicle, we invited all of our current LGV apprentices to take part in a special naming competition. Apprentices from across the country were encouraged to submit their creative ideas for the new truck’s name.
After much deliberation, the winning name, EDEN, was selected. Submitted by Leanne Marriner, an apprentice at CEMEX, the name reflects the eco-credentials of the Eden Project—a renowned environmental symbol—while also paying homage to our headquarters in the Eden Valley, near the River Eden.
Leanne, who is excelling in her LGV apprenticeship, shared her thoughts on her journey with SP Training:
“Since starting my apprenticeship, I have been supported and given all the resources I need in order to succeed. Regular feedback and contact with tutors throughout have kept everything progressing at a good level, and I am pleased with everything so far.” (January 2024)
Her Learning Advisor, Kayleigh Scott, also commented on Leanne’s progress:
“Leanne had no previous logistics knowledge or experience, but she has given her all to every aspect of the journey and has continued to excel through her apprenticeship! Her support network at CEMEX has been fantastic, helping her develop key driving skills and overall confidence. As a woman in logistics, Leanne has had a very positive experience and finds the job rewarding!”
The new vehicle, EDEN, will serve as a proud symbol of sustainability and inclusivity, showcasing the growing presence of women like Leanne in the LGV sector.
A Special Presentation
The presentation of the newly named Renault T430 4X2 was attended by key representatives from CEMEX, including Les Grabarz (Northern Logistics & Supply Chain Manager), Carl Milton (Cement Logistics Manager – UK), and Richard Jenkins, one of the company’s driver trainers. Their presence highlighted the strong partnership between SP Training and CEMEX in developing the next generation of skilled, environmentally conscious drivers.
Logistics Apprenticeships for Employers
For employers seeking to upskill their workforce, SP Training offers a range of LGV apprenticeship programmes tailored to the logistics sector. Our Urban Driver apprenticeship equips drivers with the skills to handle city-specific challenges, while our LGV Driver C+E apprenticeship prepares employees to drive articulated lorries.
Both programmes offer government funding opportunities and provide apprentices with the support they need to succeed. By partnering with SP Training, employers can develop a highly skilled workforce ready to tackle the challenges of modern logistics, while also contributing to a greener, more sustainable future.
