Who is eligible for funding?

The LGV Skills Bootcamps programme is extremely popular and places on the programme are highly sought after.

We speak to people on a daily basis who think this is a ‘free training course’ paid for by government funding and is available to anyone that would like to acquire an LGV licence.

Although this is technically true, there are other factors that need to be taken into consideration.

Up to 50% of the funding available can’t be claimed unless the training provider can evidence an interview for a role as an LGV driver and subsequently the candidate has been successful in securing a job outcome.

This means that the training provider is taking on a significant financial risk in enrolling ‘fully-funded’ candidates without ensuring that the individual hasn’t already found an employer that is willing to interview them on the basis that they would be willing to offer them a role once they have completed training.

Taking On A New Role With Your Current Employer

If you choose to stay with your current employer and move on to a new job role once your training is completed the employer must make a financial contribution to your training. This is classed as a CO-FUNDED application.

The level of contribution depends on the size of the company you work for.

  • SME (under 250 employees) – 10%
  • Large Companies (over 250 employees) – 30%

You must discuss this option with your employer prior to completing the application. The actual cost per course can be found on the application form.

A request for payment will be sent to the employer before your application is processed.
